Stories and Compassion

Stories teach us. Hearing stories of compassionate acts can uplift, encourage and inspire us to our own acts of conscience and kindness. Please feel encouraged share your stories.
I will share one of mine.
When I worked at Boston Public Library many years ago there was a library assistant named Ray. Ray followed his heart. A young Chinese woman who spoke very little English to the media department where we worked. She was employed as a waitress in a local Chinese restaurant. Her employer demanded that she learn how to read the menu or she would lose her job. Ray had been in Vietnam and spoke and read Chinese. He took her menu home and on his own time and initiative turned it into a tutorial so that she could master the language that she needed to keep working. She was able to keep her job.
Witnessing that sort of selfless action so many years ago, early in my career, has continued inspired my own work. Sharing stories like that can inspire all of us to find solutions that start from the heart.
